New Publication: Agonistic Sound Production by the Frillfin Goby from Southeastern Brazil

We are pleased to share news of a newly published paper co-authored by OSC’s Head of Acoustics, Professor Mario Rollo. The study, led by Caldas and Rollo, was published in the journal Bioacoustics on 24 July 2026.

The research provides the first characterisation of agonistic acoustic signalling in the frillfin goby (Bathygobius soporator), a benthic, site-attached fish found across the southeastern coast of Brazil. Through controlled laboratory recordings, the study documents the sounds produced during aggressive interactions between males, expanding what is known about acoustic communication in gobiid fishes.
